Worship

Almighty God is the ruler of the universe. There is none like Him and yet around the world, there are images that people have worshiped. Many of the false gods have been worshiped for almost as long as time has been. Throughout history people have found a substitute for the true Lord of Lords. Wood, stone, silver, and gold have been fashioned into something that people have bowed before.

It seems amazing to me that a statue that cannot move, one that was fashioned by human hands, could be something that people would think has power. It sits, it does not move or speak. It does nothing. Yet people have found some reason for offering it their worship.

And then there are also those things that people bow to that are invisible. Power, wealth, influence can become gods in people’s lives.

In this psalm, there is a warning. “All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols—worship him, all you gods! Zion hears and rejoices and the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments, Lord. For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.” Psalm 97:7-9

There is only one living and true God. He is above all things. If we worship anything else we have missed what we have been put on this planet to do, which is to know the Lord and to make Him known. We are to worship Him and Him alone.

Lord, today and every day I worship You. You are my King, my Savior, my Lord.
