Words are incredibly important.
Okay, I know there is a declaration that says, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”
Is that true? Are we exempt from the hurt that hurtful words can cause?
Actually, words carry a tremendous amount of power and have the potential to wound deeper than a thrown stick. A wound from a stick can heal, but sometimes words that are used as weapons cut so deep they fester, grow, become like a cancer in our bones. We believe the hurtful words over the truth of what God says about us.
So, how do we use our words?
“The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction. Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent, but folly brings punishment to fools. The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction. Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” Proverbs 16:21-25
I ask again, how do we use our words?
Please, Lord, help the words of my mouth today to be truth, filled with the grace of Your Word and point people to You.
