Today we are talking about our words and our actions. God has a lot to say about what we say and about how we act. Our words speak, but so do our actions.
“Whoever fears the Lord walks uprightly, but those who despise him are devious in their ways.
A fool’s mouth lashes out with pride, but the lips of the wise protect them. Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests. An honest witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies. The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning. Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips. The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.” Proverbs 14:2-9
Pride, deception, lies, mockery, foolishness, folly, are words used to describe the fool.
Honesty, discernment, knowledge, upright, goodwill, giving thought to their ways, are the words used to describe the wise.
There is a vast divide between the two because when someone follows the Lord, He supplies the wisdom. Foolishness comes when we are left to our own devices, and even when we attain lots of knowledge, it all falls short of the glorious wisdom of our God. There really are two very different ways to approach this life. We can do it on our own, or we can seek to follow the One who created us and knows every inch of what is best.
Folly or wisdom?
Lord, I choose to walk the path of wisdom and guidance from You.
