Have you ever had someone say unkind things about you? Most of us have at one time or another. Sometimes it is people we don’t know. Sometimes it is those closest to us.
We have a beautiful guide in what we do in those circumstances in this psalm.
“Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked; for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger.” Psalm 55:1-3
In these circumstances the threats, the suffering, is not where our eyes and heart need to be leveled. We need to look to the Lord.
It does not matter how big the problem.
He is bigger.
It doesn’t matter how harsh the threats.
He is stronger.
It doesn’t matter what the words are.
His Word is more powerful.
The answer always begins with prayer.
No matter what it is today, pray about it. There may be more action needed to solve the problem, but it always begins with prayer.
Lord, help me to always turn first to You. In good times and in trials, You are the place I run.
