“A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom. What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so are sluggards to those who send them. The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” Proverbs 10:23-27
It is astounding to me the amount of advice we can glean from just a few words in this book called Proverbs. In our text today, we see the contrast between fools and those who embrace wisdom. We see the tragic outcome for the wicked but the secure future for the righteous. We see how a sluggard’s life affects those around him and how we can add years to our lives.
Wow, all of that in a few verses. What does that say about this book?
It says to me that this is not man written. This is evidence that this book is inspired by the Holy Spirit and means we need to pay attention. Every word that we read proves to be true.
Read it. Study it. Choose to follow it.
Lord, I want to pay attention to every word that You have given us. Your words bring life and a future. When we ignore them, we miss it all. Help me to listen to all You are saying to me.
