Hurt, fear, grief, illness, pain, terrors…when they come into our lives, often it feels as if they have fallen on top of us and overwhelmed us. It is the tone of these verses today: “My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, ‘Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far away and stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.’” Psalm 55:4-8
The prayer is to have wings to rise above the pain and find the place of rest. Most of the time being swallowed up in this kind of trouble means we are there for a season. We are also there for a reason. There are lessons to learn and growth to take place. But we don’t have to face it alone. Isaiah 40:31 gives us the key.
“...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I want to always find my hope in You, Lord. No matter what my day or week or future holds, I want to find my hope in You.
