Psalm 30:6-10: “When I felt secure, I said, ‘I will never be shaken.’ Lord, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. To you, Lord, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: ‘What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me; Lord, be my help.’”
One of the many blessings of reading and studying the Psalms is being able to identify with the varied emotions that the writer also deals with. There are those mountain top experiences when we feel secure, when all is going well, and it feels like nothing difficult or challenging can touch us or happen in our lives. And then come those times when it’s as if God has hidden His face from us. Sickness, accidents, the brink of death, financial ruin, storms, the list goes on and on and it feels like everything is spinning out of control.
However, our emotions, our feelings, our circumstances, our view of all that is going on in our lives don’t change the reality of God’s faithfulness. He is now and always will be our very present help in all of life’s challenges.
Lord, thank You that if I’m on the mountain top, You are there. If I am in the pit, You are there. You are my faithful friend.
