Weighing the Heart

More and more people have walked away from absolutes. Many things that we have counted on have now been brought into question and lots of people have decided that “their truth” is truth.

It means that whatever a person wants to believe is right…is right.

Even lots of people who call themselves Christians have walked away from believing that the Bible is infallible, that it is absolute truth. They believe that the parts they want to be true are true, but the rest is up for debate. So, for many, there is therefore no absolute truth.

But does that mean that there is no absolute truth?

Let’s just settle this absolutely.

Truth is truth no matter if we believe it or not.

We can deny the law of gravity. We can believe with our whole heart that there is no such thing. But if we step out of a ten-story window we will be dead, because not believing in gravity in no way negates its existence.

It is ludicrous to even consider that.

Proverbs once again addresses the situation. “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him. A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart. To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Haughty eyes and a proud heart—the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin.” Proverbs 21:1-4

“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

Let us not even think for one moment that we know better than God. We do not.

God is God and He declares what is truth regardless of whether we believe it or not.

Lord, we want to pray today for those who are being influenced by voices that tell us to follow our own thinking, declare our own truth. We pray that people will see Your Word and know that it is truth.
