Because we are a very fast paced society, because we have lots of information instantly at our fingertips, because our news comes to us even as it is happening, because many things come to us quickly, we are no longer a people who like to wait. We get frustrated standing in lines. Traffic stalls drive us crazy. Being placed on hold on the phone causes many of us to hang up. We have learned to want what we want, right now.
But there are some things for which we must wait.
Psalm 33:20-22: “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”
God is our hope. He is our help. He is our shield. There is no better protection. There is no better place of rest. There is no better help. He is all that we need. Storms may come, an enemy may choose to attack, difficulties can arise, but we can always trust the Lord. In that we can rejoice. And even in those moments when the answer doesn’t come immediately, we can continue to pray, ask, seek, knock, and choose to wait on the Lord. His timing is perfect, even in the wait.
Father, may Your unfailing love be with all of us as we put our trust in you.
