Does it appear to you sometimes that evil people seem to flourish? Maybe you look at your life and you’re trying to follow Christ, but you’re struggling financially. Then you look at others, who have no evidence of following the Lord, but they have new cars, new homes, speed boats and take fancy vacations.
Does it seem equitable?
Today’s passage addresses the wicked with their intents and their apparent flourishing. Here’s what it says, “The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death; but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.Hope in the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it. I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree, but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found.” Psalm 37:32-36
The wicked may appear to flourish. They may exhibit fame, power, and wealth. But there is coming a day when all of that will disappear, and they will be left with nothing. They will be no more.
We hope in the Lord and He will exalt us to inherit the land. It doesn’t matter what we have today as long as we have Christ. What He has waiting for us is so much better than houses, cars, boats. And the vacation that Jesus has planned for us is an eternal one.
Heavenly Father, help me to remember that what I have here is a vapor that fades away. Only what I have stored up in heaven matters because that is eternal.
