“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob. Look on our shield,O God; look with favor on your anointed one.”
One of the wonderful things about reading and studying God’s Word is that there is always more to learn. Here in the 84thPsalm, we have a rather obscure reference to a place. What was this valley that’s being mentioned?
It’s called the Valley of Baka.
Was it a real valley?
But the literal translation is the valley of weeping.
Hmmm, the valley of weeping.
Have you ever walked through that valley? Have you ever had to dwell there for a while? Perhaps, as you are reading this section of the Psalms, you are right now in the valley of weeping. Something has happened in your life that is causing great sorrow.
Be encouraged. The verses today say that those taking a pilgrimage in that valley, go from strength to strength.
Is it your strength?
No, it’s God’s.
Right now, rest in Him that He will make this valley no longer a place of weeping, but rather a place of springs. The New Living Translation says, “The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.” I like that.
Lord Jesus, today I feel like I am in a valley of weeping, but You are here and can turn my weeping into joy and make this a place of blessings. Thank You.
