There is so much to learn from this precious book if we will take the time to tear it apart. But remember, studying God’s Word is not a once and done venture. We change daily and the take-aways are specific for our needs each day. God speaks to what we need for that day.
So, what do we need today?
Let’s ask the Lord to make that clear to us.
“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me, and he said to me, ‘Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.’” Proverbs 4:1-4
We see from this that the appeal was for these sons to listen to their father’s instruction. There is a challenge in those words for us as parents. We need to give right teaching to our children. It is not to be based on the winds of the times or the popular cultural wave but the truth of God’s Word.
That is especially true today. If we let culture guide us we will find ourselves in the most upside-down position we could take. The voices that are sounding today are proclaiming that wrong is right and right is wrong. We have adopted a view that the innocent deserve to die and the guilty need to be set free.
It is a world of mud and sludge and debris that is proclaimed as progressive, accepting, and tolerant.
That is not truth.
Study God’s Word. It is as true today as the day God whispered it to the hearts of the scribes who wrote it down. It will never change. It is eternal, more solid than a rock. So, we need to listen to our Father’s teaching, live it, and teach it to our children.
It is our hope.
Help us to recognize the lies that are being embraced as truth and instead help us to embrace Your Word and live by it.
