Not everyone respects the beliefs of Christians. In fact, sometimes we face ridicule and scorn. People sometimes say things to taunt us. As days go by this may get worse. The chasm between those who are believers in Christ and those who are not, grows wider.
In the next couple of verses, we are given a way to combat the taunts and scorn that may come our way.
“May your unfailing love come to me, Lord, your salvation, according to your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me, for I trust in your word. Never take your word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law, for ever and ever.” Psalm 119: 41-44
When we know the Word of God, we have an answer. It is exactly how Jesus responded to the devil when he came to tempt and challenge our Lord. Jesus didn’t argue. He didn’t engage in a debate. He quoted the Word to answer every single thing satan threw at Him.
We can do that too, especially if we have the Word ready.
The psalmist indicated that the Word of Truth was in his mouth. He was prepared with an answer, no matter what came his way. But it was not only an answer, if he shared what the Bible said, it was the right answer.
Lord, help me to learn and know Your word, so I am always ready with Your answer.
