Back in November, election day was incredibly important for our country. I have been praying along with so many others for God to lead us and bring our country to our knees.
As I read this psalm, it sounds as if the author was feeling exactly the same way I have been.
“Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.” Psalm 143:1-6
Our struggles are not new. They are not unique to our times and generations. There have been difficult, uncertain, challenging times since Adam and Eve left the garden.
But this psalm offers the solution. It coaches us to call on the Lord, plead with Him to hear us, and defeat our enemies. It is my prayer for today. It will be my prayer for tomorrow. It will be my prayer no matter what.
Lord, I spread out my hands to You, trusting that this world is under Your control. Thank You that no matter what happens, You’ve got this!
