I love the idea of a treasure hunt. But there aren’t many opportunities in my life to go on a dig or board a boat that is headed to open waters to dive for a sunken ship filled with Spanish doubloons. I’m sorry to say that the last time I checked there were no messages on my voicemail asking me to join that team.
But there is a treasure that is more valuable and more long lasting than any I could even hope to find wearing a scuba diving suit.
It is a dive into the Word of God and uncovering the treasure recorded there.
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” Proverbs 2:1-8
So, what is a take-away from these verses?
Here’s at least one: if you will open the Word, be willing to listen, ask for understanding, and look as carefully as a prospector or treasure hunter, you will encounter the Author and receive wisdom and understanding. And that, my friends, is the greatest treasure you can ever find.
Father, I pray that You would open our minds as we study this book of Scripture. Help us to discern Your will and Your challenge. Thank You.
