The Victor

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Psalm 23:5

What a picture! Imagine being in the African savannah with a pride of lions resting close by. We get out, grab our foldup picnic table, set it up and fill that table with what looks like a Thanksgiving meal. Then we sit down and eat. The lions rouse. They begin to crawl close, crouching, waiting for the right moment. But that right moment never comes for them. Why? Because even though they can see us, we are behind a glass enclosure that separates us from them.

Now imagine Jesus setting up a table for us. Satan is close, crouching, waiting, crawling as close as he can get. But he cannot pounce, because we are under the Banner of the Lord that says the devil is defeated.

God has already won the battle against satan. Jesus defeated our enemy on the cross when He spoke the words, “It is finished.” Christ is my Yahweh Nissi, The Lord my Standard of Victory. I can sit under that banner, knowing that Jesus fought the battle. I can declare victory over enemy.

You are my Victor, Lord. You are the One who went to battle for me so I could be declared free and unafraid. Help me to claim you as my Banner of Victory.
