It’s interesting the power that kings have wielded through the years. There are some that have had absolute power, even determining with a word, life or death. There are some who have been more figurehead than power. Even across our world today we have both.
Today’s verses give us a little insight into the hearts of at least some kings.
“Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness. Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value the one who speaks what is right. A king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but the wise will appease it. When a king’s face brightens, it means life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.” Proverbs 16:12-15
We want rulers who weigh right and wrong. We want leaders who will approach leading with honesty and integrity. We want leaders who want to hear truth and also speak truth.
But sadly, that is not always the case. It is sometimes very difficult as we hear rulers speak, to discern what the facts really are and where we are being led.
It is why we have to trust in the one true Living God. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and always speaks and deals in honesty. And He is the true leader.
Lord, we put our faith and trust in You. We know that You are the King who will reign for ever and ever.
