“Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity. The proud and arrogant person—‘Mocker’ is his name—behaves with insolent fury. The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work. All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing. The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable—how much more so when brought with evil intent! A false witness will perish, but a careful listener will testify successfully. The wicked put up a bold front, but the upright give thought to their ways. There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Proverbs 21:23-31
Proverbs 21 winds down very significantly. “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”
People have tried for millennia to stand against God. They have shaken their fists and denied His existence. They have done everything they believed they could to thwart the Bible. Of course, the devil has been behind each plan, each scheme, each attempt at a coup against the living God.
And every single one of them failed.
And every single one of them will fail.
God is bigger than anything man can devise. He is more powerful than any strategic venture planned by satan.
We read today the end of Proverbs 21 but it is pointing us toward Revelation 19:11-16: “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter.’ He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Lord, we honor and praise You for who You are. There is none like You. Thank You for being my Savior.
