“The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.”
When we look around us, at first glance this doesn’t appear to be the case. It actually looks as if the wicked get blessed. People far from God appear to have it all. They might be driving nice cars, live in mansions, have money to burn. However, this life is not all there is to life. Regardless of what the present offers to the wicked, the future for those who don’t know the Lord is extremely bleak. Their house will eventually crumble into dust. Their possessions will fall into the hands of others. And the lives of the wicked will be lived out far from God in eternity.
But those who love and follow the Lord will flourish, even if today they must live their lives meagerly in a tent. The word flourish is actually one of the meanings for the word Sabbath. So, rest and flourishing are the reward for those who follow the Lord. That isn’t just for the present; it is for all of eternity.
Lord, sometimes it seems like this life is upside down, but I do know it will eventually pass away. I am so grateful to know that I find rest and flourishing in You.
