Our heart is a very important organ. It is vital to our very existence. If our heart stops beating, we stop breathing. And that is the end. So, our heart has a very important role to play in our physical health. But our heart also represents the center of our emotions. We talk about our hearts bursting with joy, or our hearts breaking with grief.
We can speak of a happy heart and that is what we see in Proverbs 15:13-15. “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.”
Our emotions can be reflected in our countenance. Our face can let those around us know if we are happy or if our hearts ache.
Of course, there are things that are going to bring us sadness. If we live long enough that will happen. But there is a joy that can happen in a person’s life that is there even in the greatest sadness. It is the joy that comes from knowing Christ and also having the assurance that our loved ones know Him too.
There is nothing more important than knowing You, Lord. Help me to spread the Word so others know You too.
