In Israel, a tradition says that a small harp could be hung from the branches of a tree. At midnight, when the north winds blew across the strings, the wind would actually play the harp, awakening the owner to get up and study God’s Book of instruction, His law. It would bring joy to the one studying as he looked into God’s Word.
“At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws. I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. The earth is filled with your love, Lord; teach me your decrees.” Psalm 119:62-64
Studying God’s Word fills the eyes of the reader with an awareness that the earth is filled with God’s love. Studying His precepts makes us have a vision that we cannot have otherwise. Nothing makes us more aware of who the Lord is and what He is doing than studying His Word.
I thank You so much, Lord, that You have given us everything we need in order to know You. Thank You that it’s in a Book we can hold in our hands. Please fill us with an overwhelming desire to open it and learn from it.
