“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” Psalm 28:7
Think about something incredibly joyous. A surprise party for you and you had no clue it was coming; getting called into the boss’s office and an unexpected raise was announced for you; the win of the most important game of the season and your child was the one who brought it; these are all events that fill your heart with joy. No question, they are great things.
Now consider that someone you dearly love was hanging onto a cliff, just ready to fall and crash into the rocks below the precipice and a hand reached down to pull them back to safety. That joy, that relief, is even greater than a party, a raise, or a win. That joy was because a life was saved. That is worth shouting about and praising.
Our lives have been saved. If we know Jesus as our Savior and Lord we realize that we are no longer hanging over a precipice. We have been pulled back to safety, and like David, our hearts can leap for joy. We can praise the Lord.
Lord Jesus, thank You so much for the gift of salvation. Thank You that even as I was headed for eternal death, You reached out Your hand to save me.
