What does the world say about people who believe in God and follow Him? Do they say good things or are we the object of derision for our stand to follow Christ?
Often today Christians are targeted for their beliefs. We are described with all manner of unkind, even hateful things. Some Christians have been vilified for their faith in very public ways. There are people who love the Lord who have lost their businesses and even been taken to court for their stands concerning Biblical principles. It is so challenging. The author of this psalm felt some of those same things. Here is how he dealt with it. “Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.” Psalm 119: 23-24
He turned to the Word of God and put his trust in it. What God had spoken became his council, not what the world said.
We have to remember that what people say is not the final authority. God’s Word is. It will always be true and every detail of it will come to pass. We can trust it when people are kind. We can trust it when they are not.
Lord, today I pray for all of those dealing with slander and people saying unkind things. It hurts. But help us to hide ourselves in Your word and know that what You say is truth, not what the world says.
