Have you ever watched small babies search the faces of their parents? These tiny ones will glue their eyes to the smile of Mom or Dad and then follow their eyes.
Something happens when that child searches a parent’s face. It links them together and the bond is built.
We can search for God’s face just like that.
“You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.”
But where do we look to see God’s face?
We study His Word. He has given us the smile lines, the look of compassion, the tender expressions that speak of His love. So, we study His Word the way a small child studies the parents’ faces. When we read His Word, we get to know Him.
But something else happens when babies study their parents’ faces. They learn to copy their expressions. It’s one of the reasons we look like our parents.
If we spend time closely looking at God’s Word, we learn to copy His expressions and we start to look like Him.
And don’t we all want that?
Lord, I want to look into Your face and take on Your expressions. I want people to be able to see You when they look at me.
