The Dwelling Place

If you could pick anywhere to live, where would it be? A seaside resort? A mountain retreat? Would you choose cool breezes or summer sun? Falling snow, gentle rains or the dry desert sands?

Aren’t we blessed to live in a world that has so much variety and so much opportunity for us to experience such lovely places?

David knew exactly where he wanted to live.

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” Psalm 27:4

David knew an incredible truth that not all people recognize: the presence of God is the sweetest, most beautiful, most fulfilling, most exhilarating, best place we can ever be.

It isn’t solely based on His beauty, even though when we someday look into His face we will see love personified. It isn’t just His dwelling place, even though someday we will be amazed out of our socks at the incredible majesty, color, sound and exquisite beauty. It isn’t just the rest and peace and joy that we will experience in His presence. It is all that and more, because it is what we were made for. Someday, in the very presence of God, we will recognize that we have arrived at the state for which we were created. Faith, fellowship, freedom, love, joy, hope, goodness, peace and millions of other experiences will collide in a cacophony of real ultimate life.

Lord, thank You that because I have received Your gift of eternal life my future is secure.
