“The wages of the righteous is life...” That is part of the message from today’s verses. Those wages are more than we can ever calculate. The promise here is that the wages for us choosing a righteous life is life itself. That doesn’t just mean a good life here. It means an eternal life in the presence of God.
The daily grind, the difficulties, health, financial, political worries can drain away what we feel is the good life. This isn’t talking about that. This is talking about real life and real life is found in walking and talking with Jesus every day. It is a relationship with Him that surpasses anything we have ever known here.
Wealth may bring pleasure for a moment but knowing Jesus brings life.
“The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death. Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool.” Proverbs 10:15-18
And wickedness? People think they get away with it. No one knows. You didn’t get caught. Somebody else was accused and you went under the radar. But wickedness is not an action. It is a condition of the heart and if it is never addressed by submitting our heart to Jesus, it results in death.
So what do we choose? Life or death?
Lord, thank You. Because I choose You, I choose real life.
