Psalm 36:10-12 “Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. See how the evildoers lie fallen—thrown down, not able to rise.”
Today, as I sit at my desk, I am well aware that very soon the early morning light will overcome the darkness of the night. The sun is going to rise today and nothing will stop it. It is one of the sure things in my life. There are others. Without any help from me, the earth will continue to rotate and I never even have to give it a moment’s thought. It’s a sure thing. Even if dark storm clouds hide the sun today, it will still be up in the heavens giving its light. And then tonight, the sun will set, perhaps in a glorious display of color. And then darkness will once again cover the land. These things and billions more are happening every single day without any assistance from me. I can bank on them. I can count on them. I find great comfort in the constancy.
But more than any of that, I can count on this: God’s love will continue. More than the certainty of the sun, more than the surety of the earth, is the abundant, everlasting, overwhelming love of God for His people. I find eternal comfort in that.
God, You are love and You pour all that love out on me. I am forever grateful.
