“The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.” Psalm 67:6-7
We use the words, “Bless you.” We may even say, “God bless you.” Those are pretty common in our world.
But what does it mean to be blessed? Is it, as some believe, health, wealth, and prosperity? It can be. God can bless us with all the good things that we desire and so much more.
But those things are not guaranteed. There is no unwritten rule that following God equals an easy life filled with stuff.
The blessing of God is that we get to know Him. We can freely come into His presence. We can be sustained and held even when there are shadows and darkness. If everything falls apart we will always have the Lord. No one can take Him away. If sickness knocks on our door, God is still able. He is still faithful. And perhaps at the end we will know Him better.
The psalmist knew the truth. God blesses us, because He is the blessing.
Lord, I want to walk in the true blessing, that of knowing You and making You known.
