So where do we begin our journey?
Solomon gives us the simplest path. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
We begin at the beginning. What does it mean to fear the Lord? Do we tremble at the mention of His name? Do we shake in our boots knowing He’s coming near?
When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God. They had previously enjoyed the closest of relationships. They walked and talked with Him in the garden with no fear, no shame, but their sin separated them from God, and they were afraid. So they hid. But I love that when God came near to them He gently called, “Where are you?”
It’s how He calls to us, even in our sin, the Lord gently calls us to come to Him. And when we do, when we receive His gift of salvation and redemption, the fear turns into joyous relationship and glorious honor and praise.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning. It’s not the end.
Father, when we approach your awesome presence clothed in the righteousness of the Lord Jesus, there is no cause for fear. We are so welcomed. Thank You.
