“The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalm 19:9-11
Psalm 19 is right up there with one of my favorite psalms, because it begins with how nature shows us God’s glory. God spoke the worlds into existence, so when I look at my beautiful surroundings and my heart thrills over the majesty and glory that I see, I say I am viewing God’s spoken Word.
Then this amazing psalm talks about the beauty of the Scripture. The Bible is God’s written Word. When I walk into the pages of this Book, I see who He is, and what He does, and feel His sweet presence, and bask in His revelation.
Over the centuries the Bible has been mocked, ridiculed, derided, vilified, denigrated, maligned, criticized, cut up, torn apart, disbelieved. Critics have tried to burn it; countries have tried to ban it; people have attempted to destroy it.
However, it still stands. Martyrs have given their lives standing on its truth. Millions have lived it, loved it, and staked their eternal destiny on its truth. This psalm tells us that God’s Word is more precious than gold and sweeter than honey. Through its pages we are warned of impending danger if we don’t follow and warmed with its rewards when we do. It is an eternal treasure.
And when I know the Lord Jesus Christ, I am in a living breathing relationship with The Living Word.
The Spoken Word, The Written Word, The Living Word, we can know Almighty God. We have His Word on it.
Father, I want to spend my life knowing You through the beautiful world You have created, through the pages of Your Book and in my personal relationship with You.
