As I write this, it’s still dark outside. But if I were to walk out on my front porch, most nights I would see a light. But it’s there every single night even if I can’t see it. In a few hours, a brighter light will arise and it will cause the night to retire. Amazingly this happens every twenty-four hours. I can count on it. The sun and the moon follow God’s command and they help us delineate time, the days, the months, the seasons. In Genesis, we read the beginning. As God spoke light into the universe, it was for the benefit of all mankind and every animal and every green thing. “He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.” Psalm 104:19-23
The day ticks away the minutes and moves toward the night and then each morning the day erases the darkness. It is a lovely truth that we can rest in because our God, the Creator, made it so. Today, let’s thank Him for it.
Heavenly Father, You spoke and the sun, the moon, the stars all came into existence. Thank You that I can begin each day mindful that You have created this lovely rhythm for me. Every day is a new day and I can use it to glorify You.
