As I’m sitting at my desk writing about this psalm, today is one of those days when the sirens are sounding, the wind is blowing, the rain is coming down in sheets and severe tornado and thunder storms are threatening.
It’s always a bit disconcerting when bad weather threatens, but always a reminder that our God is absolutely in charge and I can experience peace and rest with Him. With all of our scientific breakthroughs and advanced technology, there is not a person on the planet who can control the weather. The Lord spoke and the world was created. He spoke and the winds and waves ceased. Only God’s power controls nature.
King David recognized God’s power as well. Psalm 30:1-3, “I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.”
These three verses extol a few of the glories of knowing God. Rescue, healing, help, safety are all just the tip of the iceberg when we know and follow God.
Does it mean that we will never battle enemies or deal with health issues? It does not. Does it mean that terrible storms will pass right over us, or death will never come knocking at our door? Again, it does not.
What it does mean is that God is right there with us through it all.
Today Lord, I praise You for all the wonderful blessings and rest and peace I can experience even when storms are threatening because I know and trust You.
