In today’s passage the writer of this psalm is again addressing the ones who fashion their own gods. But then he also challenges his readers to trust in the One living and true God. “Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. All you Israelites, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield. House of Aaron, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield. You who fear him, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us: He will bless his people Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, he will bless those who fear the Lord—small and great alike.” Psalm 115:8-13
Those who make their own gods will be like them. That’s an interesting statement. A handmade god was made of wood or stone. How could its creator be like it? In Ezekiel we see this, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26
Without the Lord, our hearts are hard. But when we come to the Lord and repent He changes our hearts. There is such great blessing when we fear the Lord.
Here is our choice: a heart of stone or a heart of flesh, which do we want?
Today, Heavenly Father, I come to You asking that my heart might never be like a stone. I want my heart to beat for You.
