There’s a whole lot in the Bible that addresses the way we speak. James tells us to keep a bridle on our tongues so we can keep it reined in. Philippians tells us to let our conversation, our whole way of conduct, be worthy of the Gospel of Christ. Today in our passage we are looking again at the way we speak. “The wicked desire the stronghold of evildoers, but the root of the righteous endures. Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk, and so the innocent escape trouble. From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands brings them reward.” Proverbs 12:12-14
People make judgments about us. The first is what we look like. The second is how we speak. Does our language make the Gospel look appealing? When we speak, are people drawn to our words, or is our presentation abrasive and sharp?
Jesus spoke with gentle authority. He didn’t debate. He didn’t argue. His lips were filled with the fruit of the Word.
Dear Jesus, help me to know Your Word so well that people hear that from me.
