Small but Smart

Small but wise, there are some creatures that are described like that. These verses in Proverbs are written for us to take a look at them and see their diligence. Today we examine ants, hyraxes, locusts, and lizards.

“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength,

yet they store up their food in the summer; hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.” Proverbs 30:24-28

First let’s define our terms.

What is a hyrax?

Another word is coney. Hmmm, is that definition any better?

Actually, they are chubby little mammals that resemble gophers. They live among rocks and when we were in Israel I got to see them. They were so cute, running in and out of a rock formation close to the water where Gideon had his men bend to drink. Let me say that going to Israel sometimes helps us better understand terms and locations.

So, there you have it…hyraxes, ants, locusts and lizards. They are smart and find their way to their homes.

So why should we look at them?

Is it possible that God wanted us to know that if we are wise, we too can find our way to our home?

But let’s remember, there is only one way.

So, have we found it?

Jesus, I know that You promised to prepare a place for me. There is only one way to live there someday. I put my hope and trust in You.
