From the top of the mountain we see stunning vistas. From the top of the mountain we feel cool breezes. From the top of the mountain enemies are easily spotted. High upon the rocks we are held safely in His gentle grasp.
David recognized the advantage of dwelling on the heights. “Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.” Psalm 27:6
But it wasn’t solely about the advantage over an enemy. Standing on the mountain tops, seeing the beauty of God’s great creation, feeling close to the Father, brings out the music in us. We are creatures who can sing. We have voices not only for speaking but for bursting out in song.
What a privilege it is to be able to use our words to speak and our voices to sing.
Today Father, I lift my voice to You and I know that it doesn’t matter to You if the voice is beautiful or a bit scratchy.
