Afflictions, struggles, trials, challenges, hard times, are all words and phrases we are familiar with. We’ve experienced them. We’ve all had things that have been difficult, and if we live long enough, we will have more. That’s a very sad, sobering thought. But if we delight in God’s Word, there is a confidence that God will bring us through. “If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.” Psalm 119:92-96
The psalmist realized that his hope was in God and His Word. He knew that it was God who brought him through every affliction and helped him face anything that might await him. He knew that God’s boundless commands surrounded him with endless perfection.
That’s where we too can rest. Each night when we lie down, we can sleep knowing that we are safe in the arms of our Lord. Each morning we can arise to greet a new day with any challenges it may bring, because God is on the throne of our lives and He holds us. We have no need for fear. How joyful it is to know that God is always and forever our life preserver.
Lord, I want to thank You from the bottom of my heart. You are my hope and confidence no matter what I face. I trust You for today and also for tomorrow.
