“…To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.” Revelation 1:5-6
Today, let’s look at what these verses say belong to us when we know and follow the Lord.
He loves us. We are loved and valued and treasured by the Creator and Sustainer of this whole planet. We get to walk in that love.
He has freed us from our sins. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the Garden of Eden, it was one sin. And yet, the price for that one single sin was death. Sin and death entered the world. In Isaiah 53 we read that all of us like sheep have gone astray. We all have that stain of sin on our hearts.
I was changing channels the other night and heard a woman crying out these words, “I just wish I could get rid of these stains that are on my heart.” Jesus is the way to have those stains removed. The Bible tells us that God laid on Him, the iniquity, the sin, the unrighteousness of us all. Jesus took every one of our sins on Him. He went to the cross. He died. He paid the price. He took our punishment. His body was placed in the grave. But then, and this is such good news, death couldn’t hold Him; He rose. He conquered our sin. The price for one sin was death. So, if there had been one single sin that He couldn’t forgive, death would have kept Him in the grave. But He rose. On that beautiful, amazing, magnificent Resurrection Sunday, the world had a Savior. We have a Savior. And He offers the cleansing and forgiveness and freedom to us all. It is a free gift. We need only repent and receive His offer of salvation.
Then, on top of all that, He brings us into His Kingdom. We become royalty, joint heirs with Christ.
And we also become priests, those who have access to His presence and get to live out the high calling and privilege of serving.
Loved, treasured, cleansed, forgiven, made to be kings and made to be priests.
It is a glorious calling. It is magnificent calling.
