Revelation 1:17-18

The Revelation

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.’”

Revelation 1:17-18

John was Jesus’ beloved friend. When he saw the Lord, he fell prostrate before Him. He saw the awesome majesty of the reigning Lord and the response was to fall on his face.

Throughout Scripture we see people who dared to stand against the Lord.

Throughout history there have been people who dared to stand against the Lord.

There are people who believe that in eternity they will dare to stand against the Lord.

That will not happen.

When the heavenly intersects with the earthly, we puny humans cower. Over and over in the Bible we see that even when God sent an angel, the first response was fear. So, the heavenly messenger began with, “Don’t be afraid.”

But here, this was not an encounter with an angel. This was an encounter with the Lord.

Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Every single person on the planet will someday bow before Jesus.

We have the privilege, the joy of starting now.
