Revelation 1:10

The Revelation

“On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet…” Revelation 1:10

John heard the Lord’s voice. In exile, as a prisoner, in the stripped-down version of his life, John could still hear The Voice.

And perhaps removing distractions from our lives can help us to hear.

Have you ever heard God speak? He does want to communicate with us. In John 10 Jesus reminds us that His sheep hear His voice.

He doesn’t always speak exactly the same way. God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening. The Lord appeared to Abraham at his tent to tell him that he and Sarah would have a child in a year. Moses saw a burning bush and out of that came the voice of God. The children of Israel heard a trumpet blast and the thunderings from Mt. Sinai. God spoke to Elijah in a whisper. On Patmos John heard a loud voice like a trumpet.

It sounds lovely, doesn’t it, hearing the voice of God?

So how does He speak today? One way we know for sure is through His Word. One of the wonderful blessings of having the Scripture is that we can hear His voice anytime. We need only pick up the Bible and read. Someone has said that if we want to hear God speak audibly, we should simply read the Bible out loud.

What a blessed day we live in. We always have access to His Word. It’s on our phones, our computers; we have hard copies on our book shelves.

We miss hearing Him when we don’t take the time to listen.

So, listen for His voice. What words of encouragement and tender reminders of His love and faithfulness does He offer? Pick up the Bible and see.

He so wants to speak to us.
