“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” Psalm 18:16-19
“He rescued me because He delighted in me...”
Let’s just examine those few words today and talk about the Lord’s rescue mission.
It begins with His heart. He delights in us. He loves us with a passion that is completely beyond our understanding. He recognizes our sinfulness and yet He has done everything to capture us out of it.
The plan began before time began. God knew we would need a Savior. He knew that the beauty and grandeur of the Garden of Eden and even the constant presence of Himself revealed to Adam and Eve would not be enough to keep them from sinning. When the choice was placed before them, they turned away from God’s plan to walk their own.
We have all done it. We are all sinners. We each have gone away from God and walked our own path.
So, God chose to come down. God with us in human form. He became a man and revealed the plan to us to bring us back. He took our place and took the punishment for us.
He became our Rescuer, our Savior, because He delights in us.
Lord, salvation as a gift from You seems so big. You took our place on the cross and took every bit of punishment that we deserve for our sins that we could be set free from it. Thank You for such a wonderful gift.
