“As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. Remove the dross from the silver, and a silversmith can produce a vessel; remove wicked officials from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established through righteousness. Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than for him to humiliate you before his nobles. What you have seen with your eyes do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame? If you take your neighbor to court, do not betray another’s confidence, or the one who hears it may shame you and the charge against you will stand.” Proverbs 25:3-10
Dross is in silver. It is the impurity that has to be removed. Then when that is gone, the silver can be molded into something beautiful, something usable.
Wickedness is in the hearts of all mankind. It is the impurity that has to be removed. The problem though for us, is that it isn’t just a onetime process. We come to the Lord and by faith ask Him to cleanse us and come into our lives. And He does. But as we walk through this life, the sinfulness does creep back in and we need to come repeatedly and ask to be made clean again.
1 John 1:9 reminds us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He lovingly hears our prayers of repentance and willingly forgives.
The result is that He is continually forming us into something usable and beautiful.
Lord, here is my life, please wash away all the impurities, my actions, my thoughts, my waywardness. Thank You for the ability to be made new, reshaped into Your image.
