“Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:4-5.
I must admit I love these verses for reasons that most will not identify with. Forty plus years ago I labored through the night to bring my second daughter into the world. The pain and tears of childbirth had endured through the night, but her birth just before the sunrise brought us so much joy that we named her Joy. Often these verses have come to mind when I think about that night.
But this sweet reminder is for all the challenges, difficulties, sadness and grief we experience in our lives. They come. They visit, but they pass.
The judgment of God can come. We see it in the Scripture. It lasts but a moment. But His favor is for a lifetime.
Oh Lord, I join the psalmist as he praises You for your love, favor and faithfulness in our lives.
