So much of Proverbs can be broken up into individual sentences. It feels at times like Solomon was giving us bullet points for the difference between wisdom and folly. Today we are again looking at some of these points. We see more of the vast chasm between choosing wisdom, which is following God, as opposed to following our own foolish devices, which leads to wickedness. “Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength. Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers. Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths. Whoever plots evil will be known as a schemer. The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.” Proverbs 24:1-9
Wisdom offers so much. This passage tells us that it is the way a house is built. Wisdom is the foundation, understanding establishes it, and through knowledge its rooms are filled.
I have to wonder what exactly the rare and beautiful treasures are. Perhaps we may think about furniture pieces that have a long history with unique designs and are treasured for their antique value. But I don’t believe that is what this passage is referring too. If we seek Godly wisdom, ask the Lord for understanding, and rely on the knowledge of the Bible, our hearts can become filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
Lord, I want my heart to be filled with Your Word. I want my home to be filled with Godly wisdom. Thank You that that is how we can become rare and beautiful.
