Psalm 59:14-15 paints a graphic picture of those who do not follow the Lord. “They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.”
Snarling, howling, prowling following our own devices do not lead to a pretty picture. The world looks inviting with all its sin filled activity and promises satisfaction, but the promises are empty and false. The path away from God is more of beast, not beauty.
King David knew the Lord. His words in verses 16 and 17 of this Psalm speak of His peace and rest. “But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.”
Snarling, howling, prowling, not satisfied…or strength, song, praise, a refuge, a fortress, someone on whom we can rely…to me the choice seems very simple.
God, thank You for peace and satisfaction. Thank You for being my safe place. Thank You that every day of my life I can rely on You.
