This is what God has said about Jerusalem: “God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress. When the Kings joined forces, when they advanced together, they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror. Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor. You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.” Psalm 48:3-7
We can build walls, put up fortresses, dig moats, use a bunch of impenetrable locks. We can employ the best type of protection known to man for a home, a city, or even a country. All of it is what we humans do to protect what is inside from evils that are outside.
However, what it all boils down to is that God is our protection. He is the one who stands guard over us. Israel has seen God’s protective hand. Jerusalem has been under fire with nowhere to turn and God has given the victory regardless of how it looked. 1948, 1967, 1973, wars with surrounding nations that seemed impossible for Israel to win, and yet God gave the victory.
God is our fortress no matter where, no matter what, no matter. When danger approaches, run right to His waiting arms.
Father, thank You that You are the fortress. You are the place of protection.
