Sometimes people make promises to God when things are tough. It goes something like this, “God, if you will heal my child then I’ll go to church every Sunday.” Or perhaps it sounds more like this, “Lord, I’ll tithe every Sunday if you’ll just help me out of this financial mess.”
Maybe it’s something completely different but at some point, people may have made a promise to God. Perhaps one of those people is you. Has there been something that you asked God for and then made a promise? But a long time has now gone by and it’s hard to keep that promise. The psalmist evidently had made some promises. He said, “I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you—vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble. I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.” Psalm 66:13-15
Maybe we have some trouble remembering to keep our promises to God. But He never forgets. Perhaps it’s time for us to remember and keep our promise too.
Heavenly Father, I am looking back today to promises I have made to You. Help me to be faithful to keep those vows.
