In a time when chaos has been reigning, it’s hard to grab onto peace. Because of massive shutdowns people’s lives have been tumultuous. Incomes have been slashed. Money pressures have mounted. Stores have had limited resources. Places of exercise and entertainment have closed, some forever. Loved ones have gotten very sick. It has seemed like our lives have been turned upside down. And then there have been upheavals and riots in multiple cities around our country. This has not been a peaceful year. It has maybe felt like the very ground under our feet has been shifting.
What can we do?
Psalm 125 gives us an answer. “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. Lord, do good to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. But those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers. Peace be on Israel.” Psalm 125:1-5
Trust in the Lord! And then ask God for peace.
And peace was given 2000 years ago when the angels spoke to the shepherds. “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:14
The Prince of Peace had just been born. When we know HIM, we can know Peace.
Lord, this has been a most challenging year. I choose to trust You and stand as strong as Mount Zion which cannot be shaken. I pray for peace for my life and the lives of my family, friends, loved ones.
