“Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked. You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy? Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 43:1-5
There are some absolutely beautiful phrases in this psalm today. It is only five verses, so we are going to look at it in its entirety instead of taking it apart.
One of the most powerful blessings of these psalms is that you see both sides of the world in just a few verses. This one begins with the dark side of life. There is oppression, mourning, wicked people trying to do wicked things. It’s real life. It is the way our world runs. We can escape it for a little while but just turn on the evening news. Life can be dangerous, dark, and sad.
But the answer to that is also right here. Ask God for His light and faithful care. Go to His holy mountain. Kneel at His altar and experience His joy and delight. Praise Him with music. Put your hope in Him.
There it is, today’s formula for victory. Very simple, just a few verses, extremely powerful!
How I thank You and praise You. I can be in the middle of a mess with everything going wrong around me, but I come into Your presence and there is light and delight! What hope!
