“May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, ‘The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.’ My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long.” Psalm 35:26-28
What a way to end this solemn psalm asking God to bring David’s enemies to their knees. He closed with a declaration that he would praise the Lord all day long.
David wasn’t standing there with all of the answers in his hands. He hadn’t yet seen every one of those prayers come about the way he had prayed. He asked and at times it felt like there was no answer at all. But he ended with his promise to the Lord that he would praise. He would proclaim God’s righteousness.
It doesn’t depend on the answers. It depends on the Lord.
No matter what the answers turn out to be, that’s enough.
The way I am ending this devotion today is to praise You. Right along with David, I declare that I will praise You all day long!
